This started out as a barely focused image I had in a scrapbook. At the time I clipped it from a magazine, I had no idea the actor was Alan Rickman.
I scanned the photo and spent about two days in Paint Shop Pro just cleaning it. In addition to being blurry, it was old, had creases in it; in short, it was a real mess. I nearly gave up on it after two days. I kept going, though, as I was feeling VERY stubborn.
Once cleaned, I ran the image through about a dozen filters in Paint Shop Pro, and then took it into GIMP. From GIMP I was able to achieve the glow, and the softness I wanted. After GIMP I took it into a trial version of Corel Paint Essentials (it was this project that had me purchase the software).
Painting it wasn't as easy as I thought it would be. PE has some great, automagic paint filters, but on an image as small as this one, you have to bite the bullet and do so actual digital painting to bring out detail. I have arthritis, and so that's not very easy. It can also be hit and miss.
After a grand total of nearly two weeks, this is the finished product. I did this about two years ago.

Talk about coincidences.
Very nice. This is going to be a personal favorite of mine for I have always loved the actor long before he was Severus Snape. He reminds me of Richard Burton in a way.
